We had the honor of knowing Donald W. Hamer over the last two decades of his life. Don was a brilliant semi-conductor engineer, a successful businessman and a generous and compassionate philanthropist. Don’s willingness to help fund our community development and cultural heritage programming and flexibly provide general support was and continues to be instrumental to Via Foundation’s success.
Today’s blog is special. On this day – Tuesday, November 29 – #Giving Tuesday is being celebrated around the world by people giving to their favorite charities, volunteering, and helping in other creative ways.
“We want to do more than just work from our office – we want to help revitalize our neighbourhood in other ways, too. So if you’d like help with your renovation project, we could come work as volunteers for one day…”. Those were the first lines of the email that we sent to the guys working on the inner courtyard project Vnitroblok in the neighbourhood of our new office in Holešovice -Prague.
Despite its small size, the town of Markoušovice in Eastern Bohemia is the epicentre of many interesting community projects. Not least among them is a new and improved village green that local residents helped to design and build.
