Vita Gelūnienė is Alumni of the international program ViabilityNet 3.0. Lithuanian community artist Vita Gelūnienė used to work as a studio artist and teacher at the Vilnius Art Academy. She was one of the founders of the ‘Kaunas Biennial’ international art festival. Ten years ago, when Vita met Irish artist Ed Carroll, the focus of her artistic practice changed. The CEE partner organization network is a new regional grouping of seven civil society support organizations from six CEE countries. The main objective of the CEE partner organization network is to strengthen and develop local communities in the Central and Eastern Europe region. The member organizations seek to improve their support of local communities by learning from each other and with each other. Member organizations agreed that it is very valuable for them to exchange their community practice and as one of the ways how to do it is exchange site visit. Ieva Lāce says she has always been driven by humanitarian projects and initiatives. This passion of hers has taken her to various destinations around the world. For example, as soon as she finished her BA degree, she and two friends founded an international NGO that helps women and children in Sierra Leone. “I remember the movie “Pay It Forward” inspired me, too,” laughs Ieva. More recently she has been developing projects in Latvia. “Perhaps sooner or later my work will serve as a bigger example for the world, but for now I want to focus on work here,” explains Ieva.
They’re young but they’re helping others more than a lot of us older folks. And they pick challenging issues to address – education of Roma students or building bridges between different generations, to name just two. Best of all, they’re enthusiastic and their drive often leads other young people to join in and their work brings tangible results.
