Creative Writing: An Innovative Tool to Building Bridges in Communities

Thursday, April 27, 16.30, Auditorium 2

When I was at university I took part in creative writing classes. We wrote by ourselves and for ourselves. When I started working with youth I explored the possibility of applying creative writing methods to the process of group building, to personal development and intercultural learning. More recently, while working with young people from divided communities in Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina I learnt how to use creative writing to support interaction between people living in different communities in their own ‘bubbles’, to make members of a community look at their community through different perspectives and realize what their community was missing. In this workshop I plan to share my experiences and several activities based on creative writing and to combine several theoretical insights into creative writing with practical work.

Key words: creative writing, community building, storytelling, innovation
