Young Philanthropists held a strawberry craft fair to help an ill classmate

One of their events is the Strawberry Craft Fair, which they held to raise money for Vítek, a classmate with muscular dystrophy. With help from Via Foundation and also through a collection on Darujme.cz, our online giving tool, the students raised CZK 106,848 for Vítekand his family.
The student parliament is a busy group. They organize events for students, parents as well as other citizens. They have regular meetings with the mayor of Karlovy Vary to present suggestions to improve life for citizens in the city, visit retirement homes, celebrate significant anniversaries and organize charity collections.
Vítek, a student at the school, began having trouble walking at the age of 3. After a series of physical exams, he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a disease which gradually weakens all of the muscles and eventually requires wheelchair support. Every year Vítek spends several weeks in a medical spa for comprehensive treatment. During the school year, he has regular physical therapy and swimming sessions and takes part in swim meets for the physically disabled and swim training camps. His favorite hobby is photography, particularly of animals in nature. He used his photography skills at the Strawberry Craft Fair, where he served as the official photographer. At the fair, visitors had a chance to taste baked goods, have their faces painted and buy products made by students. There were also fun workshops, a magician and [pictured here] the main mascot, Mr. Strawberry.
